If I were to ever live my life alone, I would live in a place like Yemen. Away from rest of the world, away from technology, modernity etc....

In fact the British author in this documentary who lives in Yemen (Tim Mackintosh), wants me to visit Yemen one day. I have been in touch with him for years, we usually email each other once in a while.

if you have a mission to improve the lives of others, why not. otherwise i don't see the point of becoming a burden on an already trampled economy system. why would you deprive yourself of all that is good to live in a country that is suffering from poverty and war??
modernity and technology is not necessarily bad. you just have to make sure you don't get caught up in it to the point where you lose sight of other aspects of life.
i never understood people who shipped their dollars along with them to a third world country with the claim of wanting to live the simple life like others in that society.

It has to do with living a different sort of life and discovering oneself. Many people in the modern world are lost, and their lives seem meaning less. A place like Yemen which is cut off from rest of the world, can defiantly bring a change and meaning to life. You just have to be daring and willing to experience that change, most people can't because they are too afraid of any change.

Also I am not saying technology is bad, however, most of us in the west are too much caught in to it. If one doesn't have internet or cellphone for a day, it seems like their whole world has stopped. This to me is addiction to technology. Any sort of addiction is really bad. We have lost touch with reality and this world because of overuse of technology. Living in a isolated place for few years can open ones eyes and also make their minds peaceful

Change can not be brought defiantly.

We depend on cellphones or Internet because its needed of us to be aware of our surroundings and that is how people communicate here. An ordinary man back home has no need for a cell phone or Internet. If you see people who have access to Internet in rural areas of Afghanistan, they barely use it for educational purposes. Same goes for cell phones.

Middle way is the best. Some technology and some wildness. Some Yemen for long vacations(may be years) and some D8 countries for living.
