  • Some of my pics from Afghanistan

I was going through my old computer and found my pics from my 2007 trip, here are some of the good ones.

this pic was funny because a few minutes before there was a huge traffic jam on that street, some guy was parked on the wrong side of the road and he was trying to get out and was blocking traffic, people were yelling at him and the police were trying to resolve the issue lol

chicken street, i didnt see any chickens but there were a lot of flower shops.

    haji baba restaurant 4 life

after i took this pic, some afghan policeman told me i wasnt allowed to take pics in this area

    masjid that was under construction

so i was walking around and saw a cock fight right on the side walk, this was the winner of the fight. funny thing was that it was like 5 feet away from a computer shop lol

here at the tomb of the ansars. after i took this pic i went outside, and on the steps there are a bunch of old people, and there was a woman. she begged me for money so i gave her some afghanis, then all the men are like why dont u give us afghanis too. so my dad and our driver says get in the car. we are trying to get out of there because there is a mob of beggars, outside the window of the car the person is saying please give us money, so my dad says we dont have afghanis or dollars so the guy says its ok ill take euros LOL.

I am looking forward to those.

                Nice pictures Randolph85.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

LOL@ Randolph. I was so curious about 'Chicken Street' too....i literally thought chickens would be all over the street. But it turns out that the best chickens to buy are from there.

I remember as i was walking there near the shops, this man just killed the chicken right in front of me.....i didnt expect that

I think you took a photo of Zyrat Shamshair....in Chilseetoon right? Yeah you have to take some money everytime you visit a zyrat. Where you walk in the door way to take off your shoes, there are beggers....and it looks bad if you dont give them money. Plus it is sawab =)

Since you wont see women going to Jumah prayer, the zyrats are filled with women on Jumah days. I went every Jumah to pray there. Beautiful experience!

Did you visit the restaurants in Wazir Akbar Khan district. Literally.....you wont find the best kabab else where!

Did you visit Gul Bahar Center?

i think the gul bahar is the new huge building thats under construction and almost finished right now, it was probably just a foundation in the dirt when i was there. maybe u are thinking of kabul city center?

in any case, i stayed in the kabul city center for a few days. the people who administer the place are indian who speak english even though the owner is afghan, the price is negotiable so we got a good price. it was funny, after we checked out on the last day, everyone was saying bye to us. the afghan cleaners, the armed guards and everyone else lol

as for the beggars thing, i saved a bunch of money to give to the beggars there. usually i was really discrete in giving money because i knew if people saw u with money they would chase u down. i was there during eid so it was a good feeling to give to people and say eid mubarak. some kids were just freakin annoying, while other groups of kids were funny as hell and would joke around with u.

also there are some sneaky afghans there who are "professional" beggars. these people make a bunch of money off foreigners and are probably better off than most afghans. i remember this kuchi looking woman who was very rude when she was asking for money, and acted like a businesswoman lol
