    - First time I went to Afghanistan was in 2006..
    - My second trip was in 2008..

    - I was there last year as well, 2010.. Toronto --> Zurich --> Dubai --> Kabul (a long freaking flight from Canada)..

We always go with Ariana Airlines - lovely planes.. Seriously, I saw a seat nailed (not bolted) to the floor.. there were broken match sticks in the headphone outlet, chewing gums and other minor garbage here and there where there were open spaces..

Even though it had it's ups and downs, I felt alive when I was there.. Like you guys mentioned, the entire city was under construction.. The sad part was that, the government doesn't do anything and let people build whatever and wherever they want.. It would have been much better if the city was actually involved in the re-construction process.. It is always, better than nothing though..

I do agree, Kabul is packed with Pashtuns.. We stayed with our uncle in Syed Noor Mohammad Shah Maina (Karte Naw).. It is a Pashtun dominated district of Kabul city (close to Ahmad Shah Baba Maina, Rahman Maina etc..)..

Went to Shamali (northern areas of Kabul) and to Shakardara district and it was like heaven - it was on a hilltop.. Spent a day with cousins and friends, had toot a long with torway..

Went several times to our village in Logar (which is like a half hour an hour away from Kabul)..

Ka khair wee inshallah, I am planning to go back next year.. If the situation is not too bad and it doesn't get any worse, I will be moving back permanently..

Back when the Amir was a Crown Prince he visited the mother land.

I was 11 yrs old, and I travelled by air to Pekhawar via Islamabad.

Drove from Pekhawer to Ghaznai. A trip that none would dare try now.

I rode a horse, posed awkwardly with guns, stuck a twig up a donkeys azz, dropped 25 lbs, had a delightful assortment of diseases ranging from jauntice, to malaria, burned his backside with the finest Afghan dirhhea this side of the Durand, attended a Taliban study camp for kids, organized a village soccer game, consumed naswar, taught my 14 yr old cousins about sex, and raided various baghs and stole fruit.

I left a part of me there.
