  • Afghans stun UAE in high-scoring friendly

KABUL : Afghanistan handed a stunning defeat to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a high-scoring friendly cricket match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, Afghan officials said.
The match started in the afternoon and lasted late Friday night. The UAE after winning the toss opted to bat first, setting a formidable 308 runs target for Afghanistan in the stipulated overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Afghan team manager, Nazeem Jar Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone from Sharjah that fast bowler Aftab Alam took five wickets.
Abdulzai said the target initially appeared tough but it was easily achieved, thanks to some fine pinch hitting by Mirwais Ashraf and Noor Ali Zadran. Both struck centuries. Ashraf scored 123 while Zadran 115, playing a key role in Afghanistan's victory.
Hasti Gul Abid, who is responsible for technical affairs at the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), said the national team was playing practice matches in Sharjah in the lead-up to their three international matches in Kenya.
After their last practice match in the UAE, Afghans would proceed to Kenya.
He added Afghanistan defeated the hosts in another friendly played two days ago.

    Hi, I am the source.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
