MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first on a new Kochi pitch that is likely to get slower later. India made one change in the team, bringing in Shami Ahmed for Ashok Dinda, who took two wickets in the last ODI. England also made one change in the squad. Chris Woakes replaced Tim Bresnan who misses out due to a slight niggle.
It is the second time England is playing an ODI in the South Indian city of Kochi. The ground is massive - the biggest for cricket in India now that the capacity at Eden Gardens has been trimmed - and can hold approximately 70,000 spectators; the pitch is likely to be a turner; the weather - hot and humid. The Indian team, on their current form, might be the easiest challenge for England today.
Teams
India: 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Ajinkya Rahane, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Shami Ahmed.
England: 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Kevin Pietersen, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 6 Joe Root, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 James Tredwell, 10 Jade Dernbach, 11 Steven Finn
