Alviro Petersen followed the same strategy of bowling first that helped them beat Mumbai Indians in their first match of the tournament. Petersen hoped for dew in the evening, and its double impact on both the pitch and the outfield. Lions retained the XI that beat Mumbai.
Chennai Super Kings, who lost their first match, made two changes. Albie Morkel came into the side, and Michael Hussey was the overseas player left out to accommodate him. Wridhhiman Saha replaced Yo Mahesh in the other switch.
