Toss Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl v Delhi Daredevils
Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and decided to bowl first in their Group A opener against Delhi Daredevils. Gambhir's justification for the decision to chase was the "difficulty in defending a total".
The current IPL champions have decided to go with Jacques Kallis, Brett Lee, Sunil Narine and Brendan McCullum in their foreign-players' slots, while the Daredevils have opted to leave out David Warner and go in for Kevin Pietersen, Ross Taylor and Morne Morkel, apart from captain Mahela Jayawardene.
More of the same, in terms of the track, is expected at the Centurion, where Titans made 163 for 4 and then cut out the Perth Scorchers' boundaries and eventually closed them out for 124 for 7; there was high bounce courtesy some of the grassy patches - the ball, even when delivered at medium-pace, beat the batsmen and wicketkeeper on a couple of occasions. The average score at the ground is 153 so anything above this score would be hard to chase under the lights.
