For the second time in this tournament an England match was delayed by a Super Over, and West Indies' victory against New Zealand means Stuart Broad's team must now win their final Super Eights game to keep their title defence alive because West Indies' net run-rate is better. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have the advantage of a good net run-rate although a heavy defeat will leave them in trouble.
England have made three significant selection decisions, the most notable of them is leaving out Craig Kieswetter, who has struggled to provide the platform required during the tournament, and Ravi Bopara is recalled which means that Jonny Bairstow will keep wicket for the first time at international level. Meanwhile, Jade Dernbach also returns as does Samit Patel as second spinner in place of Danny Briggs.
There was a curious situation involving Sri Lanka who sent Kumar Sangakkara out for the toss but he said he was purely because Mahela Jayawardene had lost three in a row - a promptly lost it himself - although it was unclear who the captain was for the day. Their one change is the return of Akiha Dananjaya in place of Rangana Herath. Sri Lanka's spinners will be the main threat to England when their run chase takes place.
Sri Lanka 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Jeevan Mendis, 6 Lahiru Thirimanne, 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Lasith Malinga, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Akila Dananjaya
England 1 Alex Hales, 2 Luke Wright, 3 Ravi Bopara, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 6 Jos Buttler, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Stuart Broad (capt), 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Steven Finn, 11 Jade Dernbach
