Afghanistan chose to field v India
Afghanistan asked India to bat first on the pitch used minutes ago for the Australia-Ireland game. That meant they passed up the opportunity to use whatever assistance the pitch might have provided after the wear and tear from being used for three innings.
As expected, India went in with just four bowlers, and L Balaji kept his place as the third seamer ahead of Ashok Dinda. The batting line-up wore the familiar look, with Manoj Tiwary missing out.
Afghanistan had to do without their star bowler Hamid Hassan. Gulbodin Naib came in as his replacement.
India 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. &wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Irfan Pathan, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 L Balaji
Afghanistan 1 Asghar Stanikzai, 2 Karim Sadiq, 3 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 4 Nawroz Mangal (capt.), 5 Najibullah Zadran, 6 Shafiqullah, 7 Mohammad Nabi, 8 Gulbodin Naib, 9 Samiullah Shenwari, 10 Dawlat Zadran, 11 Shapoor Zadran
