Shooto Champion Siyar Bahadurzada Signs with UFC

Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Kazuo Misaki at Sengoku 1
It’s sometimes funny how quickly fortunes can change in the mixed martial arts world. The latest example of that is when Team Golden Glory fighters were excised from the Zuffa list of talent due to an issue in negotiating with the team’s management.
That situation has since been rectified and now several Golden Glory or former Golden Glory fighters are back in the family.
The latest is Afghan fighter Siyar Bahadurzada, who says that he has signed a contract with the UFC.
“I signed with the @UFC!!!! I’m very excited to be a part of the UFC and test my skills with the crème de la crème of MMA,” Bahadurzada tweeted Friday morning.
“I wanna thank the @UFC and @danawhite for this opportunity. I will shake up the ww division!!! Also special thanks to my team Golden Glory!”
Bahadurzada is the current Shooto light heavyweight champion, which has a maximum weight allowance of 183 pounds, but he will be competing in the UFC welterweight class, topping out at 170 pounds.
It’s a tough class, but Bahadurzada has a 20-4-1 professional record, winning half of his fights by knockout or TKO. He steps into the Octagon riding a six-fight streak of victories.
