I don't see what the big deal is. Why do they have to represent you/us/Afghanistan/Afghans/Pashtuns, anyway? Why can't they just be normal people who don't have to represent anyone at all? Let them be. What have you or I done to represent our people? They remain Pukhtuns/Afghans/whatever else they are regardless of how they dress; why can't they just represent their own selves?

Now, if this was something like that Pakistani model who, in 2006, wore a bikini and said, "I represent Pakistani women," then I'd understand that that's just sick. But if they're just singing/acting/modeling and minding their own business, leave them alone, damnit.

And stop buying their music because they're not dressed the way you want them to dress? Okay, I dare you. Stop listening to them.

We need to realize that most of the time, they dress like this BECAUSE men want them to do this. I'd never do it myself, and I don't respect women who do whatEVER they do just to please men, but they still have every right to do this.

Mozhdah is a TV host and singer,
                            Seeta Qasemi is a singer,
                            Ghazal is a singer,
                            Aryana is a singer,
Zarlasht, Vida and Hamasa are models,
Mezhgan Hosseini is a make-up artist.

Only actress is Leena and she's a pretty darn good one at that too.

Some of them are so incredibly beautiful. Others are graceful, others are talented, others are pioneers.
If you have problems with them, stop letting these characters define you and you will soon find that their profession won't bother you anymore. The moment you decide that Bahara is representing you as an Afghan, you start having issues with other peoples lives. Let them do what they do, you do what you do. Hat tsok payijhi, Kar ye payijhi.

Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan
                            .

^ Totally. Why let others define us? Why let others represent us? Why not do it yourself? We're never gonna respect our own selves if we're gonna keep letting others do this to us, if we're gonna keep letting others offend us because of the way they dress. We can't control people (and thank God we can't); we can control only our own actions -- well, most times, anyway.

If you've a problem with the way they "represent" YOU, go do it yourself. Go enter the media and represent all of Pukhtuns the way you think they should be. Go become a singer or an actress or a model. If you're not gonna do it yourself, or lack the ability or talent or audacity to do it yourself, don't prevent others from doing so. Chances are, they're doing something that they've always dreamed about doing; what are YOU doing to achieve your own dreams? Some of us can't even dare to dream because we think it's not for us. If I admire these women for anything, it's that they keep (or seem to keep) their spirits alive in spite of the sick criticism that they get from sick (or jealous?) people like some of us.

                                Mayana/Roshina,

Gravy girls...though the problem is that most often these celebs/models/singers etc. end up representing us, and that happens when they actually do say that they are i.e. Vida claiming to represent women of Afghanistan while parading naked with that malnourished bulimic thing for a body with a banner that says AFGHANISTAN.

So you can't help but feel misrepresented when they go on and flaunt themselves as such. If they only represented themselves, and not the country, region, ethnicity or religion that they have ties to, no one would have an issue....at least, they shouldn't.
