  • Congratulations to Afghans on the 99th year of independence

    Happy independence day

    Having said that
Afghanistan was never part of the british raj.
British did pay Afghanistan for the control of foreign policy.
The british wanted Afghanistan not to be friendly to Russians.

They did bring in their puppet shah shuja who failed miserably and finally turned against them.

This is a loser thing tbh.

Afghanistan was never a colony. I dont see it as part of any European empire map. Overpowered, yes, even china was overpowered, but no colony.

Why do we call this day "independence," or even celebrate it?

The British were paying Afghan kings to not invade India, and to not ally with Russia. All that happened is Amanullah Khan invaded India, and a new agreement was made with the British. For everyday Afghans, this day did meant basically nothing. The British had no influence on the internal affairs of Afghanistan, and the supposed control over foreign affairs meant nothing when Afghan kings just did what they wanted anyway.

It's some nationalist tripe to manufacture some fraudulent narrative about Afghan identity. ....It's those same people who peddle the fallacy that Afghanistan was a modern and liberal society which was more laxed than Europeans if it weren't for "foreign" Islamic fanatics.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

lol so I recently found out that whole "we were so modern our women all more miniskirts!!!" garbage is common among Iranians too.

It just goes to show you how dumb and shallow these anti-religion secularists are. Their conception of modernity is all about how revealing women dress themselves.

You just found that out? They were ones who started it and Afghans just co-opted it afterwards *smh*.

They think this because they see that represented in the status quo in America and Western Europe at the current time.

Afghanistan mostly celebrates this day as day of Amanullah Khan. I didnt know this until I visited Kabul a few years ago. The elders told me that back in the day it used to be a big day with lots of people coming out for it, but when I was there, there was hardly any celebration.

All these independence days for all the countries are celebrations of colonial powers leaving behind corrupt useless govs so those colonial powers can have leverage over so called independent nations except for prob USA. There is nothing independent about it.

                side note: countries that dont have independence days;
                • Britain, France, Russia, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Thailand

Killzai, could you at least create another troll account to pretend that you’re a Persian supremacist? You already admitted you’re an Indian on this one.

Ataturk was a big time cuck too though, and tried to peddle that as progress (while he ruled the country as a dictator and violently silenced any dissent of course).

This independence day celebrations are a bit absurd after all we are bieng occupied and bombed by up to 20 countries, our government is a puppet of the West, foreign proxies are waging a war and our neighbors can strike at will in every place of our country. What kind of independence is this?

Not sure about that. Spain had a independence war against France. Dos de Mayo uprising is widely celebrated in Spain. And in China 1949, the year Mao took over, is considered the end of the Chinese "Century of Humiliation" and the recovery of Chinese independence.
