Muslims burn Pampers nappies because of cartoon cat | Daily Mail Online

I do not see any resemblance to the name Muhammad. They are imagining things like one imagines shapes in clouds. These kind of stunts give the chance to non-Muslims to ridicule Islam.

Reminds me of that Teddy Bear named Muhammad ordeal ....lol

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

DailyMail is a tabloid, not real news. Can't trust them.

On the topic of the protest itself, that cat looks nothing like محمد. This reminds me of a popular rumor years ago that the Coca Cola logo backwards was “لا محمد لا مكة”, but at least in that case the logo kinda resembled the Arabic phrase. Here it looks nothing like it. There’s alao a common claim among desis in the US that wearing ties is haram because they’re meant to symbolize a crucifix, though again, a tie looks nothing like a cross.

Conspiracy theories have gotten more and more prevalent with the rise of the internet and especially social media. From what I’ve heard, it’s a huge problem in India and Pakistan as everyone uses WhatsApp and people believe stupid chain messages that spread very quickly. I think some people have even been killed in India over false rumors spread over WhatsApp, and I won’t be surprised if something similar happens in Pakistan over fake blasphemy accusations. This stuff happens outside of the Subcontinent too, by the way. During the last US elections, someone shot up a pizza place over rumors that high ranking Democrats were using it as a base for a child sex trafficking ring.

On the other hand, stuff like this actually does happpen. A big game released last year (Destiny 2), and its staff had to apologize for some images that looked a lot like some white supremacist graphics. One of the Call off Duty games had to redesign a map because it included some Islamic text in a bathroom. So there’s some merit to investigating these sorts of claims. This one is obviously false, but it could happen, and if it does, the best thing to do is raise it to the company directly. Western companies will almost always fix it quietly without the need for protests.
