  • Invitation to r/Pashtun

    Salam 'alaikum.

This is an invitation for all members, both Pashtun and non-Pashtun, of this forum to subscribe to r/Pashtun, a subreddit dedicated to Pashtuns and pashtun culture. For those that don't know, subreddits are communities dedicated to specific topics on the popular social news site reddit. The subreddit was made several years ago but it has never been active and has been filled with low-quality content. I have recently been made a moderator on the sub and I hope to change that and turn the sub into a thriving community. It would be a great help if you subscribed to the sub or even posted some Pashtun-related content on there. I would also like to add that the sub is still a work in progress and we still have a long way to go with creating good aesthetics and establishing a solid set of rules and guidelines. We would greatly appreciate any advice or help related to building a subreddit.

    Khuday paman

    Edit: link to the subreddit

A quick look at the sub makes me suspect that most of us wouldn’t fit in very well lol.

I’m not a huge fan of Reddit. It’s too easy to shut people down because of down-voting. While that can be good in getting rid of trolls, it also fosters the creation of an echo chamber effect where people are afraid to disagree or provide any opinion that might be deemed controversial.

Thank you so much. Please post Pukhtoogle content over there. Having someone like you on the sub is such a blessing.

Well for one, we're probably older than the users there. Secondly, the posts seem to mostly be music videos, which we have and mostly ignore here.

Lastly, and this one probably doesn't apply to everyone here, the users there seem to be more "Pakistanis that happen to be Pashtuns" than "Pashtuns that happen to be Pakistanis." In other words, the dreaded "Gul Khans." I don't really want to deal with ignorant Pashtuns who seriously think Afghans did them harm anywhere near the level that Punjab has since before the creation of Pakistan. If the younger generation of Pakistani Pashtuns feels closer to other than Pakistanis than they do Afghans, that's a shame.

Also, I wonder how many of them are even Pashtuns. Highly doubt that loser who bragged about how all the "White/Arab/Persian" women want him because he's dark is actually a Pashtun.

is there is a r/Pashtun thread, then does that mean there must be a r/Pakhtun thread?

                Pashtuns are seen as obsolete.

the same way non-white immigrants are flooding europe, similar story with Pashtuns.... our culture and identity is being lost, it's basically a run-away reaction.

i feel that the durrand line is there for Ghazwa-e-hind and to fullfill those hadiths , black flags from khorasan, whoever remembers that.

treat the durrand line like a boiling pot.

No, they're probably around the same age as people here. Reddit and PF appeal to the same age group. As for music videos, only a minority of posts fall under that category and I might end up removing them.
Lastly, and this one probably doesn't apply to everyone here, the users there seem to be more "Pakistanis that happen to be Pashtuns" than "Pashtuns that happen to be Pakistanis." Most of those people aren't Pashtuns lol. They're Punjabis/Indic Pakistanis with an interest in Pashtun culture. I know the few Pashtuns on there and they feel closer to Afghan Pashtuns than to other Pakistanis(see the discussion on reunification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan).

The reason there are so many Pakistanis on there is that out of all the subreddits I posted invitations to the sub for, r/Pakistan was the most accommodating. The mods even made my post a pinned message on the sub for a week and have added the sub to their "related subreddits" section. I also posted a message to r/Afghan but that's an inactive subreddit and the mods didn't really go as far as the r/Pakistan mods.

I've recognized that the sub is Pakistan-shifted but that's why I want people on this forum to come over. I want a group of more diverse political views and backgrounds.

Thank you for sharing your concerns.

You’re going to link the subreddit here, but not link PashtunForums in the subreddit?

                    Interesting.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I realize that there is a large number of Punjabis on the subreddit but that is why I gave in invitation here. There are a lot of Afghans and more nationalistic people on this forum who can give more diversity on the subreddit. Ultimately I want a diverse community of people with varying backgrounds and different opinions for good discussion.

Kinda unrelated, but why does r/Pakistan have a weekly "Jirga" thread?

Do Punjabis and other Pakistani Indics use the word too, or is that another attempt at them pretending there's some sort of shared cultural heritage between them and us?
