What do you think of platforms such as Mashaal Radio and VoA? I know they're American propaganda but at the same time their Pashto is really good and I learned a lot of Pashto words from them.

I think you're better off listening to independent Afghan news if you're just listening to improve your Pashto. I watch Shamshad news, and while the actual quality of the news isn't the best, the Pashto is good (though stilted because they're allergic to Farsi words), and at least it isn't straight up propaganda (while still being somewhat biased towards the Afghan government).

BBC Pashto used to have a good reputation, but I haven't heard much about it recently.

Neutral topics are fine, but anything with a political or social aspect to it will not be presented fairly by those stations. I've been listening to BBC Pashto and it's pretty nice. I'm also trying Pakistani Pashto news channels(Khyber news and Mashriq tv)(their Pashto is actually pretty good and doesn't sound artificial like Afghan channels).

The problem with western Pashtuns is that they are raised in western society and they are tuned differently from those in their native lands. A Muslim father plants fatherly kisses on the face of his three year old daughter in public, and the alarmed people around him reports him to police for pedophilia. A Pashtun father in America fatherly slaps his teen son for some mistake and disobedience and the son reports him to police for violence on children and even for "sexual abuse" to make sure that he ends up in jail. Such are frequent cases there. The accounts of these "disturbed" and "troubled" westernized Pashtun boys and girls from fractured families should be taken with a grain of salt. Sure there are perverts and criminals in our Pashtun society, but to think that all the males are getting horny and getting erections at the sight of dogs and cats, and little kids playing in streets, indicate the mental illness of the claimant. In this day and age of propaganda on social media, truth must be differentiated from bullshyt. If some super-feminist westernized Pashtun girl visit her ancestral village with mentality that "all men are dogs", then she is going to see only a dog in every man.

Thats because there is a huge difference between Afghans and Pakis. Pakis are Indians in denial. You have no identity of your own, but a fake story made up around Islam. Thats why in order to reject your Indian roots you guys support religious extremism with admirable devotion.

Unlike you, we Afghans know who we are and where we come from. We are committed to our conservative Islamic values, to our ethnic backgrounds and our cultures. Thats we don't hesitate to explore other ideologies and philosophies as long as it respects our core values. Afghans even if they turn into commies still respect their families, their history, their traditions, their heritage,.. thats why very few Afghans are white wannabes like Iranians or Arab/Middle Eastern wannabes like Pakis. What this young lady describes happens to often in most of Muslim society. I remember in 90s when I went to Peshawar, on a Rickshaw in Sadr Bazaar my cousin's thighs was pinched so hard she start screaming and crying. Worst my aunt who was with us was mad at her. Same thing happen in Egypt a few years ago to my my white female friends. Instead of being defensive try to understand why our society has decayed so much.
