  • Difference between Dari and Farsi?

Is the difference between Dari and Farsi the same difference as Urdu and Hindi? which are more then 90% similar or is it less or more?

Some times I notice people in malls or grocery stores speaking either Dari or Farsi, yet as a outsider I have no clue which language they are speaking, and which country they are from Afghanistan or Iran

Yes it is like Urdu and Hindi. In fact it is even more similar as they use the same writing system.

It is the same language. Dari is a name that was introduced in Afghanistan only in the 1960s to try and make a distinction between Persian dialects spoken in Afghanistan with those spoken in Iran. The name change is a political difference, in reality the language is the same, just different dialects. There is more than one regional dialect spoken in both countries. The name Dari is actually stupid, and so is the name Farsi. It would be more accurate to call the language Parsi, and the different dialects / different accents Herati, Kabuli, Esfahani, Shirazi, Bukhari etc But that is another topic.

"Dari" in Iran can mean two different things, a Persian dialect spoken by some Zoroastrians, or a very formal, literary style Persian. In Afghanistan it is just a misnomer for Persian.

If you can't tell who is speaking Dari, or Farsi, then how the **** do you know the difference to ask this question? GTFO you retard. Stop making up imaginary scenarios in your head.
