  • Kabul and Peshawar differences?

For people who lived in Kabul and have been to Peshawar, what were the differences you felt?

Peshawar technically is located on the Indic tectonic plate and Kabul on the Iranid, you can see on the map below. Was there a huge difference in the environment, weather, food, vegtables, fruits etc.... Indic tectonic plate is more Humid and tropical, but I am not sure if Peshawar has similar environment/conditions to places more east and south

Most of Northern Pakistan gets snow . The Mountains in Gilgit Baltistan are the tallest in the world . Afghanistan's cities are located 4000-5000 above sea level which helps in cold and snow compared to our urban areas which are located near the sea level .

Kabul is a majority Farsi speaking city while Peshawar is Pashto speaking city.
You can get by with just Pashto but you need to know Farsi in Kabul to interact with the locals. Kabul is more multi ethnic and you can find Hazaras, Uzbeks which you don't see in Peshawar.

Kabul has milder weather and is not hot and humid like PeshAwar although Kabul has become dusty due to deforestation.

Food is kinda similar but Kabul has more central Asian influence while Peshawar has Desi influence.

Pollution, traffic, lack of public transport is same in both cities. Kabulis are less religious than Peshawaris, at least in terms of public display of religiousity.

Can't think of other things, ask if u need to know more.

What is Kabuls equal of Hayatabad? I noticed most of Afghanistans urban areas/mountains are brown and lack trees . Is it because of the war , deforistration or just that trees dont grow in Afghanistan much ?

Never been to Peshawar but I was born in Kabul and spent in there most of my childhood. Before war (even during the communist regime) Kabul was like heaven. I have such a sweet memories from back then. Unfortunately during the civil war our beautiful capital was destroyed.

I still remember this poem my mom used to recite when I was a little boy:

اگرفردوس روی زمین است همین است و همین است و همین است

"If there is a paradise on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this!"

"For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,
I awaken the Ajam by this Persian [language]. "

                -Ferdowsi.

I think Wazir Akbar Khan area would be compareable to Hayatabad. This is where all the wealthy, educated class live.

Watch this video, it was made by someone I know. It shows the landscape of Afghanistan, mostly shot in Kabul, Laghman, badakhshan and the north east.

Yes Its mostly due to deforestation because the Afghanistan is cold in winter and people burn the wood to keep themselves warm. The worst effected areas by deforestation are Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Badakhshan, Kabul which were known to be greener. Afghanistan in general is less greener than pakistan though as we don't get monsoon rains. Something like the billion tree tsunami of Imran khan is needed for all major cities.

Wazir akbar khan looks nice . Quite different to the aerial shots that I am used to seeing of Kabul . You guys dont have gas connections electric/gas heaters at home ? What percent of population use cylinders or woods to keep themselves warm ?

Your friends video looks nice . Again very different to the mountains I see in Afghanistan . How is domestic tourism in Afghanistan ? Do people travel to these places in big numbers ? In Pakistan during the summers mountain resorts are thronged and booked for the whole 3 months . Despite the 40 year war I do read about a few foreigners going to Afghanistan for extreme tourist activities like Kayaking , Rafting or Skiing .

Foreign kayakers surprise Afghans in the Panjshir Valley | The National

I have heard of the skiing in Bamiyan too . Softer image of Afghanistan should be promoted by all Afghans instead of arguing over whos superior pashtun or tajik . Ethnic integration and cohesian is the the way forward for Afghanistan .

We do get alot of rains . Punjab gets the most rain hence its the greenest of all provinces with fields and trees everywhere . Followed by KP and then Sindh . You mentioned you have been to KP did you venture over to Punjab or Sindh ?

Some people have access to central heating, electric and gas heaters but IDPs who live in slums around the city mostly use wood. Kabul has 24/7 electricity but many can't afford it. Once the TAPI pipeline is built, Afghanistan should benifit from cheap gas but the infrastructure needs to be built first.

Afghanistan's tourism industry is non existent due to insecurity but the Afghan citizens visit Mazar e Sharif in Nowruz on 20th March which is the Afghan New year. Kabulis visit Paghman for fun.

First punjab needs to stop ripping off the rest of Pakistan. Maybe after that you can go around preaching.

Well unlike Afghanistan in Pakistan we have a relatively good track record of ethnic harmony regardless of who's ripping off who . Punjab has a population of 100 million so its natural it will get majority of the budget . This is a very simple idea to understand there is no rocket science involved . In UK , London gets the most budget because it contributes the most to GDP and has the most Population . You don't have to be an Einstein to understand this .

We can take the example of army here :

                            Pakistan's Military-Ethnic Composition - Pakistan

                            PAKISTAN'S ARMY COMPOSITION
                            Picture
The percentage of the different ethnic groups as of 2007:
Punjabis: 53.19% (represented accurately because it has half the population)
Pashtuns: 21% ( 15 % of population but still more in percentage )
                            Sindhis: 13.5%
                            Kashmiris: 9.11%
                            Balochis: 3.2%

KP is doing even better than Punjab these days . The secret is to elect good people . KP in three years alone has outclassed all Provinces in performance despite having the lesser budget . You are not going to see harmony and prosperity if you elect people like Gul Agha Sherzai , Dostum , Karzai and all those filthy warlords .

Majority of the budget is not the same as more money in proportion to their population.

Explain why most mega projects benefit punjab. Explain why CPEC has to be a curve instead of as close as possible to a straight line?
