  • Why do Pashtuns insist that older sibling should get married first?

Its so frustrating. You can't even talk to anyone as everyone agrees with this non written convention. It doesn't matter if the younger one is more mature, financially stable etc. All they care about is age and "khalk ba sa waye?".

One of reasons why Pashtuns are still one of the least developed communities is because they care so much about what other people might think or say. Many Pashtuns live miserable lives in order to satisfy people who don't give a damn about them.

traditionally, with women it is because if you are not married by the age of 21, people start wondering why that is so your parents don't want you to be labelled after your younger sister gets married and with men, because men don't pay for their own weddings, the family pays for it. it's unfair to the older to get the younger married while the older one is waiting for his turn.

i don't know what the problem of afghans in the west is. our elders are so brainwashed by the pressure of what the society might think that they wont abandon that way of thinking even here.

it is simple, because muslims and even most hindus do not date first

I think it is actually pretty stupid and backwardness of these cultures, older siblings are often forced to marry someone they do not even like, just because younger ones want to get married to someone they like

Its becuase people will talk that the older sibling has something or is not good, thats why he/she cannot find a partner. Thats why parents try to marry the children in order. And this is not just exclusivly Pashtun, other people do it too.
