Afghan forces have been demonstrating great capabilities fighting elements of the ISIS terrorist organization in Afghanistan. ISIS loyalists, whose presence is largely concentrated in eastern Nangarhar province, are struggling to establish a stronghold in Afghanistan but are failing due to tough resistance from Afghan security forces. In a recent operation, a number of ISIS militants were killed during an Afghan and U.S. – led coalition airstrike in eastern Afghanistan. An additional number of militants were killed by Afghan ground forces and a large cache of weapons and ammunition destroyed. The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan is committed to continue train, advice, and assist Afghan forces to fight and counter terrorism in Afghanistan.
