With the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), significant progress has been made in the agriculture sector of Afghanistan through various programs. One such program is called CHAMP, Commercial Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing Program. Part of the program includes agribusiness which has helped improve the quality of Afghan products from farm to market, creating jobs, improved livelihoods, and has boosted the economy. The program has also trained more than 107,000 farmers, including 3000 women, on improved agriculture techniques such as planting, fertilization, irrigation, and disease and pest control. In addition, CHAMP has facilitated the export of 32,500 metric tons of fresh and dried fruit and nuts worth $34.5 million to international markets including Pakistan, Bahrain, Canada, India, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
