  • Should Afghanistan and Pakistan dis arm its population?

I think people have a right to protect themselves against potential threats so they should be allowed to have limited light arms such as pistols and assault rifles but many people have access to RPGs, mqchine guns and heavy weapons which they don't need.

I think its time that all these militias, sardars etc are dis armed and people are issued with liscensed light weapons.

My concern is what would happen if it tried to disarm the population. It'd create a bloodbath either way.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

It doesn't have to be by force, people can be convinced through dialogue and maybe there can be like a 5 year plan or something similar. Only criminals, militias, druglords need rocket launchers, machine guns etc not the ordinary citizens. A pistol, assulat rifle is enough to protect yourself against bandits, theives etc.

The militias, criminals , druglords are associates of the gov. Why would the gov disarm their associates.

Criminals, militias and druglords are the ones preying on ordinary citizens.

The current puppet regime is indeed corrupt and can't rule without help of militias and warlords but this step should be taken once we have a legit government free of foreign intervention.
I dont have a problem with militias and volunteers as long as they work under the rule of law.

Ofcourse they are because the governments are too weak to confront them and in some cases they work for governments. These criminals who don't want to disarm should be dis armed by force.

Which would lead to a veritable bloodbath, these criminals will fight in towns. They will align with Talibs, ISIS and whoever else.

Right now worst enemies of Afghans are Afghans themselves. Ergo yes, disarming people would be a good step.

Same logic applies for Pakistan and Pakistanis.

There is nothing wrong with militias as long as they fight along the government. In Iraq shia militias are fighting DAESH as much as the government. Most of them are loyal to the Iraqi state but there also many others who are crazy hardcore bast*rds. Same thing happens with Afghanistan and Arbakais.

Not possible to disarm Pakistani population. But I would like to see Islamic inpired law of "muk maka" be gone from Pakistan. That's is one retarded law for modern times if I ever saw one. 1. Kill someone over anything 2. pay money to victim family for muk moka and get out of jail.

I know people justify it so revenge killing can be stopped. But this revenge killing still is a thing after centuries of this law. And if killer is rich and family of killed poor then rich always get away.

                      .
But the victim family has choice of refusing Diyat.

You are talking about Diyya which is the compensation for accidental death, not murder. Of course you pakistanis have manipulated everything and pay diyya for murder which is intentional killing and the State fails to bring a criminal case against the perp.

There are two cases that occur when someone is killed. The first case is a criminal one which the state brings forth against the accused and the second is a civil one which the kin of the victim brings forth against the accused for financial compensation. Diyya is civil part. This happens in all societies. Just because something that happens in pakistani does not mean it is Islamic.

Even with light arms, Pashtuns are murdering each other over trivial things. Jahiltob is the real issue

It were the Talibs that had disarmed the militias and warlords and the Americans rearmed them to prey on the population.

Talibs are trying to be politically savvy; they desperately need wide spread legitimacy. This would be one way to do it is by saying the jangyali get to keep their weapons if they support their cause.

Then ...after , they'll go and have fiefdom battles with those guys.
