  • Is "umbarak" a Paki thing?

If you use the search tool of this forum you can find a variety of the word "Umbarak" being used by members from KPK/Pakistan.

I use to think this is a misspelling of the word mubarak. But after seeing so often, I am tended to think this may be how people in Pakistan pronounce it.

Can anyone explain why people keep saying "Umbarak"?

Evolution of an Arabic word and adapted by Pashtuns. KP Pashtuns say umbaraksha, others say mubarakshaa.

Its not a "Paki" thing, some Pashtuns in KPK use it though. Its just the evolution of language. Just like many pashtuns in Afghanistan say "Mishqab" instead of "Bishqab" which means plate, KPK pashtuns say "Palaitt".

i have heard villagers say it that way as well as "mumbarak sha". something else that i have noticed amongst kabulies these days is the term "imshallah". it's not just the uneducated villagers either. idiots in ties will utter this gibberish right in front of you.

It's just a mispronunciation of "mubarak". Like how people in Quetta say "injilay" and people in Peshawar say "jinay".
