Adversity Builds Character For the Individual - Is the Same Thing True For Nations?

    By Lance Winslow

Perhaps you have noticed that the folks that go through the harshest of times and the most hardships in life turn out to be some of the nicest people you will ever meet. In fact, they seem calm in the face of challenges when all others get over stressed and complain or lash out. Why is this? Well, it's simple really, because Adversity builds character. Now how on Earth would you think that I knew that?
Now my question to you is, have you ever considered that after a devastating natural disaster in a community that the entire town unites together in the common cause to re-build? There seems to be a closer bond between people that go through hardships together. It is quite common for soldiers, athletes and victims of natural disaster to form close bonds together, but what happens when it's the entire town, city or even an entire nation?
For instance, after Hurricane Katrina, the city bounced back and worked together to rebuild. After 911 the United States ditched the animosity and political divide in order to come together as a nation. Do you remember the sense of nationalism, with the Flags flying and folks coming together? After the Tsunami the entire world came together, donations and assistance flooded in from around the globe.
Currently, China is going through some hardship during their big Olympic Year, due to the devastating Earthquake. But something tells me China and the Chinese People will indeed emerge stronger and more united than ever. Why? Because it is my theory that adversity not only builds character in people, it does the same for great nations.

Reading the above brought tears to my eyes because I see many of us arguing when we should be coming together in this time of tragedy.
Just as the USA did after 9/11, we Pashtuns should ditch the animosity and political divide in order to come together and try to help one another as one nation.
