  • Afghan Women in the Medical Field

A decade ago, Afghanistan had one of the world's worst health-care systems. Today, with U.S. government support and the help of international donors, access to healthcare has risen from 9 percent to 60 percent with more trained care providers, skilled assistance during childbirth, and midwifery schools established in more than 32 provinces throughout the country. Additionally, last year Dr.Nasrin Oryakhil, director of the largest women’s hospital in Afghanistan, was recognized by the U.S. State Department for her exemplary leadership in promoting women’s health and maternal health care to women in Afghanistan. She was one of 10 recipients of the U.S. Secretary of State Women of Courage Award 2014.This is a significant progress for women in the medical field as well as Afghanistan’s healthcare sector.
How do you evaluate the progress of women in the medical field in Afghanistan?
