  • Social Media in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is rapidly urbanizing and along with urbanization comes greater access to 3G networks allowing Afghans to make more use of social media networks. As such, social media forums like Facebook and Twitter have played a significant role in uncovering and reporting criminal activities all over Afghanistan. Harassment, intimidation, and attacks are frequently being exposed and reported through the use of social media. This became especially apparent recently with the lynching of an innocent girl in Kabul who was wrongfully accused of burning the Quran. The incident went viral, sparking nationwide demonstrations and vigils around the world.

Do you agree that technology and connectivity, signs of an evolving Afghanistan, play a significant role in empowering Afghan citizens?
