does anyone know what the proper term for a family within a family is?? is it a micro family? like the son goes off to get married and then has his own kids and wife.. what is the term that is used to describe his wife and kids and separate them from his larger family??

You have immediate family(mom, dad, kids) and extended family(uncle, aunt, grandparents, nephews, nieces, cousins).
a subfamily would be the man's or woman's immediate family living with their parents or anyone who maintains the family like grandparent or uncle/aunt. This only applies if the whole family(immediate and extended) is a cohesive living unit.Comment
