February 15th marks Liberation Day in Afghanistan. In 2005 it was declared a public holiday and became effective from 2007 onwards as a celebration of the date Soviet soldiers made their exit from Afghanistan in 1989. It is customary that on this day the Afghan President and other officials give speeches that are transmitted nationally on television in order to boost solidarity and national unity among people.
