  • Afghanistan's Economy

As withdrawal of US and international forces draws near, concern over Afghanistan’s economic development post 2014 is being expressed in some social media circles. Although this may be a concern, the future economic outlook does not look as bleak as some might describe it. Organizations such as USAID, for example, have been involved over a decade in Afghanistan to help the country move forward toward a more stable, secure and prosperous future. They will continue this partnership to ensure the country will never be a safe haven for terrorists. The focus will be to further develop the agriculture and private sectors and the maintenance of the much-needed infrastructure. USAID has stated, “In Afghanistan, even as our troops come home, we continue to invest in the nation’s long-term development, ensuring the gains we’ve made over the last decade are lasting and meaningful.”
In view of the evolving political and security uncertainties, how do you see Afghanistan’s economic outlook post 2014?
