On June 25, 2014 the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has declared the historic city of Bamiyan the first SAARC Cultural Capital for 2015? This means Bamyan will have the opportunity to generate considerable cultural, social, and economic benefits, which could help in urban regeneration, boosting the city’s image, and raising its visibility on a regional and international scale. It will also provide an opportunity to attract investment in tourism and hospitality particularly in view of Bamyan’s natural beauty and historic heritage. Even though Afghanistan’s economy has significantly improved over the years with the country experiencing the most democratic and prosperous era in the last 35 years, there are still views that draw a bleak picture of Afghanistan’s economic development, especially post 2014. With this in mind, do you agree with this view?
