  • Afghanistan memories

Hello PF members. I'm new here and I'd like to start by sharing some memories from back home.

One day we were on our way to school, just fifteen minutes from school we were caught in the most ferocious hailstorm that I have ever experienced. The sound was more impressive than anything. We held our bags over our heads for protection. As we reached the school, all the grounds were full of hail.

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I was going through the forum and I see that there was a member with the name $hiva.

Perhaps the dollar sign meant that Hindus only believe in one God, money, or I'm giving this Shiva character more credit for having a sense of irony.

I'm not Shiva. But I also have a sense of irony, or that is how I think. For instance very rarely does it happen that I say something only to realize that it meant completely the opposite of what I was trying to say.

Has anyone here been to Afghanistan recently, and would like to share their experiences?

We used to climb this mountain (more like a steep hill) from its western side, early in the morning, everyone in the family.
