  • Final Election Results Announced

Final results of Afghanistan’s historic Presidential elections have been announced with a second run-off to be held on June 14th. Millions of Afghans with great resolve and determination voted for their desired candidates and are ready to participate in the second round. As UNAMA Special Representative for Afghanistan, jan Kubis, expressed, “Afghan men and women demonstrated their desire to live in peace, dignity, and prosperity. Democratic choice prevailed over violence.” US Ambassador, James Cunningham also expressed that “the United States will continue to support the electoral process and work with Afghans and the international community to further strengthen electoral institutions and their procedures”. We join our officials and congratulate all Afghan citizens, civil society, Afghan media, and the Afghan National Security Forces on reaching this historic milestone.

Everyone was expecting a lot of violence during this election but it passed on peacefully. The Taliban's support from Pakistan has finally dried up and so is their fighting ability. Why Pakistan stopped supporting Taliban had to do with drone strikes, which made the Pakistani Gov seem, rightly so, as if they were sanctioning a foreign power to kill their own citizens, so they finally decided that its better not to support Taliban and avoid the drone strikes.

The future of Afghanistan depends on whether the Afghan economy becomes sufficient enough to feed its people and pay its bills. The only way the Afghan economy will become sufficient is to stop corruption and that can only happen if all the people who're not loyal to Afghanistan are removed from Gov positions.

Good point. Corruption is a major concern.
