  • What determine your religion?

It's an unavoidable fact that for the vast majority of humanity, their choice of religion comes down to the culture they're born into and their parentage. If you were born in North America, it's odds on you're a Christian, while being born in India means that you'll probably be a Hindu and if Saudi Arabia is your birthplace, you're more than likely a Muslim.

Billions of people around the world didn't choose their religion through in-depth studies of all the others. There's no comparison of different holy books and seeing which ones have the best scriptures, ethics, miracles, etc.. There's no getting away from the fact, that for the vast majority of believers, parentage and country of birth dictate just what their belief is.

Does your culture determine your religion?

Your culture and religious is inherited at the same time. In my culture to backstab your friend is the lowest form of dishonor but in Islamic religion there is nothing about not backstabbing your friend. An afghan will not backstab his friend but a Muslim will.

I'll take the Afghan culture any day over the Jewish God transmitted though an Arab religion by the force of sword and economic blackmail (Jazia).

My dream is that one day Afghans shake off this Jewish/Arab disease and go back to our beloved Buddhism.

I can see what you're saying, but that's a slightly different premise than my OP, where the culture you're already born into holds so much sway over what your spiritual persuasion might be.

However, there is much in what you say in that the origins of whole cultures, or religions is primarily intertwined.

Islam is clearly a religion shaped by Arab culture. Christianity on the other hand has shaped European culture. When Arabs colonized what is now Afghanistan they shaped our culture with their culture-influenced religion so we became some sort of messed up mixture of alien culture and religion and our own culture and religion also somehow survived. That is why both Iran and Afghanistan who had a superior culture to arabs but was forced to accept the religion of arabs have become such troubled countries even to this day.

you can only ask that question and expect a genuine worth a penny answer from a society that does not make religion a fixed condition/compulsory on it's members.
when you do live under fixed conditions in a society that is strictly islamic state provides, obviously the religious views of someone who does or does not believe in islam is determined by the cultur that they grow up in. you are either rewarded or your nose is rubbed in to the fact. that is going to influence your beliefs. whether you want/like it or not.

                        Sure.

That explains why Iran is the country ranked first in :

                        - Heroin addiction per capita
                        - Nose jobs per capita
                        - Sex change operations per capita

Not mentionning Nikah Mu'tah and auto-flagellation.

                        Iran, such a brilliant culture.
