  • Afghanistan launches its first satellite

Did you know that Afghanistan has made incredible progress in the area of Information Technology? In January 2014 officials of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology announced that Afghanistan will launch its own satellite into orbit; a significant step taken in advancing the country’s national broadcasting and telecommunications infrastructure. The satellite, Afghansat1, has already begun test broadcast and is said to be instrumental in increasing connectivity through technology enabling Afghanistan’s broadcast channels to extend their coverage to Pakistan, India, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirate; a new milestone in the development of the Information Communication Technology sector in Afghanistan.

Do you agree that advances in Information technology will have a positive impact on Afghanistan’s economic growth?

Afghansat 1 (or EUTELSAT 48D/AFGHANSAT 1) [1] (formerly Eutelsat W2M and later Eutelsat 48B and Eutelsat 28B)[2] is a European communications satellite, which was launched on 20 December 2008 aboard an Ariane 5ECA carrier rocket along with the Hot Bird 9 spacecraft.[3] It was built by EADS Astrium, based around an I-3K satellite bus provided by the Indian Space Research Organisation.[4] It was to have been placed in geosynchronous orbit at 16°E, from where it was to provide communications services to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, with 32 NATO J-band (IEEE Ku band) transponders.

Good news. Hope it doesn't come at a huge cost to Afghan sovereignty, freedom, dignity, and above all lives.

I don't get it, a foreign designed and funded satellite which afghans really had nothing to do with and probably does next to nothing was launched by a foreign entity and this is " incredible progress in the area of Information Technology" LOL what a ****in joke.

this is like when like the soviets decided to take an afghan brownie to space with them for propaganda purposes lol at least then, an actual afghan man was involved.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

It is indeed Good for Afghanistan considering that Channel's in Afghanistan now will not have to opt for foriegn countrie satellite but rather one under Afghanistan. In the end complete revenue will be directly deposited in Afghanistan national account.
