    what is happiness?

no one knows what happiness is but everyone knows what will make them happy. money, status, power, physical beauty... if only i had this or that, if only i was like this or that.

and then people do get what they thought will make them happy, and then they realize they're even more unhappy because even the false promise of happiness is no longer there to give them hope.

    so what is happiness?

well, for one happiness is not an external thing. nothing from outside can bring happiness, everything that is external can bring pleasure but pleasure is a temporary thing and the worst way to try and compensate for happiness is to go after pleasure.

how to be happy? well, its easy look without any judgment at what makes you unhappy.

sometimes two people are hurting one another sometimes because of wanting one another, the other times to get rid of one another but all this time they're blind to what is it that has put them in this position in the first place

do you see what i mean?

and it is like a ring of fire, we can't escape it and any intruder who tries to get in burns... it is incredible in a way, its also funny how powerless we're actually

Happiness, sadness etc are all temporary and transitory states.

Real happiness is being content. It is hard being content because we have desires, the desire to have more than what we need to be content.

Ideally we should neither want happiness nor reject happiness. We should recognize the difference between temporary happiness (which you mentioned as pleasure) and ever lasting happiness which comes from within. Since wanting and rejecting happiness are both desires they should both be shunned and one should just BE

We are only powerless when we are slaves to the desires of our lower self (animal self), which is only concerned with food, pleasure, shelter etc (i,e Body and mind).

Here is a quote from Lao Tzu

The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named is not the eternal name
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth
The named is the mother of myriad things
          Thus, constantly free of desire
          One observes its wonders
          Constantly filled with desire
          One observes its manifestations

These two emerge together but differ in name
The unity is said to be the mystery
Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders
When one is free of desires, they they can see the essence of things, know things for what they really thus they are unaffected by both happiness and sadness.

there is a big difference between an idea and a fact. what you just wrote is an idea that you have learned, if you actually knew the nature of desire and so on you'd never post what you posted.

so, hence knowledge is ignorance because you're simply playing a recording of what you have recorded, not actually understood.

that is why just observe without any judgment your thoughts and observe how your thoughts move and work, don't do anything, just observe and then you'll understand when i say "when you don't do anything everything happens".

I agree, I am still learning, just a student sharing my knowledge.

From what I have learnt, there are two types of desires, the desire of the lower self (animal self) which is to be shunned at any cost to be liberated and the desire of the soul which is to be embrassed. The desire of the lower self (food, welath, sex etc) are to be acknowledged but one should recognize that happiness doesn't lie there and it is a bottomless pit which can never be filled. The desire of the sould is to be embrassed and encourage because the soul only desires love, truth, real happiness, beauty etc. The soul is unhappy because it is trapped in the body and enslaved by the desires of the lower self.

here is a simple explanation. the moment you become conscious of happiness it disappears. so wanting to be happy is the height of stupidity because you can never be conscious of happiness.

wanting is a disease, in fact its death that is why the whole death and desire thing. desire is death because desire means time, striving going after, time passing and what does time passing means - death.

How can one affirm even the existance of something if they are not concious of it? How can one know they were happy if they were not concious of it?

So is happiness exists in not being concious that you are happy?

                  Its kinda confusing lol

you know exactly, without any doubt, as a fact, what i'm saying and yet somehow because your brain as been clouded with knowledge which is basically recordings of external crap, you need reassurance from someone else to agree with what you already know as a fact... in other words knowledge has made you the slave to outside authority

My inquiry is sincere, I wouldn't ask these questions just for arguments sake. I want to learn and know about other people's perspectives.

Can you please answer my questions because I am confused about your statements about being concious of happiness.

Also how do I know what you are saying is not crap and what I have learnt and know is crap?

insight. do you know what is insight? an insight is when you suddenly become "aware" of something (not knowing or leaning) in an instant which has no time and your awareness has no doubt whatsoever, its a pure fact.

when this happens there is no knowledge because knowledge is bound by time. and when there is no knowledge and no time there is happiness.

in other words suddenly with no effort or any desire or intention, out of no where you suddenly become aware that you love someone and you have always loved them.

then of course knowledge comes to ruin it by bringing all doubts and garbage that it picked up from outside. but that moment of insight has had such power and the happiness in it has so dramatically changed you that no matter what knowledge tries to do no matter how much you suffer you simply cannot go back to who you before that moment of insight.

i hope that makes it clear.
