Human Rights activists and organizations in Afghanistan and around the world are expressing concern at reports coming out of Afghanistan that indicate an increase in violence against women. According to the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, violence against women has increased by 25% in the last year alone. Despite the progress Afghan women have made in the past decade these challenges remain and require the efforts of Afghan human rights activists and international organizations to continue working on eliminating human rights abuses against women. This being said, Afghan human rights activists and organizations are not sitting quite. They are actively working with international organizations, speaking out, and raising awareness about gender violence and encouraging the government to implement Anti-Violence Against Women laws. Afghan activists believe laws that protect women and empower them are key to progress in the country.
