2013 has been a significant year with events that have shaped the present socio-economic and political environment of Afghanistan and will determine the future direction the country is going. Significant events like the full transfer of security responsibility from US/NATO forces to Afghan forces, peace talks including the Taliban opening an official office in Qatar, Afghanistan’s National Football Team bringing home an international trophy which united Afghans in joy for the first time in 30 years, and the most anticipated Loya Jirga convening and agreeing on the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement between Afghanistan and the United States, all have shaped the political, social, and economic landscape of Afghanistan in 2013.
