Terrorism not only affects Afghanistan and the region, but also has an impact on the international community as well, and fighting it is not only in the interest of Afghanistan but all of us. This being said, some analysts fear that Afghanistan could once again become a viable base for international terrorism after NATO forces withdraw. Although Afghan forces have been successfully fighting the insurgency on a daily bases, training Afghan forces in counter-terrorism and helping them develop specialized skills to combat terror activities becomes crucial in establishing security across the country. United States commitment in training and mentoring Afghan security forces also include support in counterterrorism operations, which, at present, is conditioned on the US and Afghanistan signing a bilateral security agreement defining US presence in Afghanistan post 2014.
