why the west invents and the east doesn't?

if you think about it, 90% of the things we use on a daily basis were invented by westerners, even if you hate the west, you have to admit that they have invented most of the things in the world.

Eastern countries like China, Japan or even India, maybe advanced, but they lack invention/innovation, they haven't really invented anything, that has changed the world. They just use western inventions and basically only copy or on occasion make them better

how come though? why the west invents and the east just copies? why do easterners lack creativity to invent stuff?

^ even the west stole, in initial stages, especially from muslims, however I am talking about inventions in the last 200 years or so. The west has totally dominated the world

Economy, education, absense of fear for violent death and plenty of time allow human beings to explore and discover.

Another major factor for invention and creativity is competition.

You are wrong to claim Eastern Asia doesnt invent. They do invent allot of new stuff.

The reason why America is so far ahead of others is because their universities are commercial. They attract the best scholars and students.

If you put the same engridients in another part of the world you will see more innovative stuff.

If you are looking purely at modern times, then there is one reason in particular that stands out.

Inventions in the West are protected by strict laws. Whether you're talking about copyright, trademarks, patents, or industrial designs, the East doesn't protect them as much as they should.

This in turn leads to people in the East not desiring to invent or innovate. Why write a book where you'd only get a small fraction of the royalties, and someone else down the street will be selling more copies of it illegally?

If you look at any patent gazettes from Eastern countries, you'll find that most of the patents being filed are done by Western countries, not the Eastern ones themselves.

It's no surprise that many Eastern countries don't even join the Treaties that will protect their nation's Intellectual Property in other countries. If we don't give credit where it's due, people will have no incentive to innovate.

As Shamaar beautifully explained IPRs is a main reason that is why East is lagging behind in inventions and innovations these days.

Another reason is the concept of reality. West is more materialist and East more spiritual or religious. Hinduism, Buddhism, , Shintoism, Confuicism, , Jainism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam , all major religions of the world are born in the East . West is secular and keep religion to private lives and religious sites only.

Focus of religion and spiritual systems are more on inner development and preparation of the life after death and ethical values, worship, meditation , enlightenment etc not material development and inventions.

An ideal situation will be striking a balance in material and spiritual aspects of life. Now a days the west is also getting spiritual but in a non religious way.

For me the horror was when other countries begun to actually see the west as a trend setter. White boyfriends suddenly became fashionable, I mean, Nicki got that whiteboy on facebook simply to compete with the west. Hilarious stuff.
