Within my family, we have two languages;
Boricua (Spanish from Puerto Rico) and Crucian (an English dialect of the Virgin Islands).
Only my dad speaks pure Crucian which was the language of his family and his mother, my grandma who came from the VI.
My dad's side of the family are mostly English-speaking now whereas my mom's side retains the original Puerto Rican Spanish.
My moms tries her best to make me speak Spanish whenever possible but I usually speak English with her, as I do with my dad.
Me and my brother can both speak Spanish and English but we mostly use English in normal situations and Spanish as a code when we don't need Gringos to understand what we're saying.
The English I speak with my parents is a mix of standard English (with both British and American influence) and the Crucian dialect, which is similar in nature to Jamaican Patois, but easier to understand if you're not Caribbean.
When I'm angry, I prefer to use the Crucian profanities among English-speakers and the Boricua slang among Spanish-speakers.
What about you?
