its not about lying. Even if I was talented ( which I am not) and somebody would say that to me, if my nafs is weak ( which it actually is) I might get tempted to become arrogant. Therefore, the reason why Rasool Allah sal allahu alayhi wasalam prohibited his companions from praising people in their presence, it to help the praiseworthy person to remain humble and sincere and to protect him from falling into arrogance.

We need to remove even small matters from one another path from going astray.

Who knows, you praise me here once, and the next moment I convince myself that I am something and I loose sense of reality.

The possibility is very real. Human beings are very weak.
