Afghanistan banning Indian Soap Operas

The best news iv ever read on this forum. Indians have the most disgusting and sexually explicit TV shows and movies known to man, the worse part is that they are AIMED at children aswel as adults, they have no parental guidance ratings and their addiction with relationships, sex, dance is targeted to brain wash people. No doubt people in this forum will be incredibly upset, spineless begherats.----------

Good move. Indian Soap Operas offer almost nothing positive to any society. Most of these soap operas are over the top with dramatic music to make up for the low quality storylines. Pashtuns should make their own dramas which are compatible with our religion and culture and which are relevant to the issues faced by pashtuns such as lack of education, corruption, occupation, etc etc.

That's true, but something has to be done. It should be banned which will push it underground most likely. If people still want to access it then its their own choice.
Having said that, these issues are not as important as the justice system, rule of law, accountability of civil servants, freedom of speech.

Thank god.
I cannot express enough my disdain for these Indian shows.
Not nesecerailly because of their unislamic or sub-continent-culture-spreading content but their excessive use of music, horrible dubbing, sound effects and overly dramatic zooming camera angles. It was embarrassing to watch.
Despite that, I remember when I was in Kabul back in 2006, my entire family living there would be glued to the TV sets watching Tulsi getting so serious about it and angry if you made slightest sound. Like zombies. 7:30pm was a time when I would just step outside and walk in the garden by my lonesome.
Their continued presence was a crime against quality entertainment - let alone Islam & Pashtun culture.
Replace them with something of actual quality.Last edited by Haris; 08-06-2013, 06:40 PM.---

I heard that people would rob homes while the show was on because they knew the whole household was glued to the TV.Originally posted by Haris View PostThank god.

Not really because Afghanistan's laws are based on sharia. This sort pr obscenity Doesn't come under freedom of speech protection under Sharia. Every society has its own limit as to what is acceptable and what is not, there is no total freedom, except maybe in a future anarchist state.Originally posted by khushal View Postdoesn't banning it infringe on freedom of speech?

I, too, have heard of this many times.Originally posted by khushal View PostI heard that people would rob homes while the show was on because they knew the whole household was glued to the TV.
There was also a case where this woman unknowingly put her baby along with the rest of her laundry into the washing machine because she was so desperate to not miss the show. The baby died in the process. I don't know if that's true but I wouldn't really be surprised seeing for myself the almost fanatical level at which people love this.
I have a relative who can't name all her grandchildren but knows every single minor character in one of those soap dramas.
The reason these shows are so popular is because they offer escapism and a common talking-point for people. War-weary peoples who have suffered for decades seek escapism in the forms of drugs, these Indian shows or whatever else. That is why we in the West (who live better lives and have already been exposed to all these types of shows) are more immune to these abominations than those of us who continue to live there.
It is something to keep the people docile & pacified. Of course its the executives & media moguls who profit the most and they'll do everything they can to resist the changes proclaiming their 'freedom of speech' or whatever.
When shipments from Egypt were disrupted, Ancient Rome would run low on grain supplies and the plebeians would riot - You saying "get ready for a rebellion" is sadly not that far-fetched. Rome's grain is our Tulsi and their plebeians are our Kabulis.
Also I found it hilarious how badly they censored arms and chests. One scene you couldn't see the arm, the next you could. The censoring could get so bad that you couldn't even see various characters at some points. If you are going to be so incompetent about it then why bother in the first place?
Also, why did it take so long for these guys to realise that it's 'unislamic'? Perhaps Karzai was purposely waiting until the end of his term before announcing the ban. I'm sure plenty of these government officials and religious people secretly watch these shows in their homes.---

Now that all the damage is done they decide to ban this polytheist filth. Its just symbolic policy to appease religious people. Wont work.Originally posted by FirdousiNever talk with Afghans about politics. All their political knowledge is limited to conspiracy theories, political demonization and contradictions. you know that haroon bacha video from youtube that i posted in pashtun forums a few months ago?? so i had left a comment there regarding the whereabouts of where the video was shot. someone replied to it yesterday. i was browsing through the comments when i came across one that was clearly yours. the same comment that you had left in that thread about him cruising through the streets of europe yet praising kabul.Originally posted by Manzareh View PostThe best news iv ever read on this forum. and guess what islamic things i found when i clicked on your username to view your profile...
but anyways...it's a positive action that i agree with mainly for the reasons that haris has mentioned and not for what the video suggests. if you think tusli runs due to the sex appeal from the show then i feel sorry for your definition of sex apeal. the only people who watch tulsi in afghanistan are housewives and grandmas and mainly because it's a story about a mother in law and her in laws.
