This is a worldwide issue, not limited to Pashtunwali. Female brides all over demand a large wedding and ignore the price tag which bankrupts the groom or leads to high debt.

What happened to the old Nikkah in the masjid with a small feast for fiends and family? Why spend so much money for a hotel when you could "get married" in a masjid and have catering in their? All you got to do is clean the place afterwards.

This idea makes too much sense so people will just stay with a materialized perception of a wedding.

Many would argue that the horse is ready and willing to drink the water. Based on the Pew Polls there is a strong argument for the world's Muslims being in favour of Islam and the implementation of Shariah. So what is the barrier? Tradition, or something external e.g. political interference?

Generally in the Muslim world that kind of politics translates into interventions by the non-Muslim west; where in fact Muslim would be happy to set up their own systems without interference. Right?

You began by knocking Pashtunwali. Fair enough. Sometimes traditions need to be put under public and religious scrutiny, but could it be argued that the Salafists (and by extension of that, the Taliban) would do this anyway?

If, for the sake of argument we said that the former's last stint in power was a trial run, full of errors, would you be able to seperate that from their other theoretical motivations (i.e. to set up an Islamic - shariah compliant system)? You appear to favour something along those lines. Correct me if I am wrong.

Well the current upswing in Islamic consciousness is largely indebt to globalization and global forces making Muslims feel threatened and cornered; traditionally this type of Universal Muslim consciousness was not really envogue for centuries.

Islam is sort of like a set of tools; you either put them to use or they don't. I think these days it is less about putting it to use and more about an identity crisis.

Enlighten us. What is Shariah/people's misunderstanding of it?

Sharia is often seen as an ideal state where everything is just and everything is better. Which is true. But this justice and improvement of a society does not come entirely from above.

The society needs to reform itself to become just and only a society that is properly reformed is able to implement laws that are just.

We are not a people who really wish for true devine justice. I am sure all those people polled by PEW saying they want Sharia, are not really implementing Sharia on themselves.

Sharia is not something a government can enforce on people. People need to bring Sharia back in their personal lives before they implement it on a society.

Lets take Taliban regime as an example. They prohibited music and use of intoxicants and people went mad. Why? Because people disbey Allah on daily bases. So when the prohibition comes from someone else, we can't accept it because it goes against our desires.

There is a very good reminder for us in the hadeeth of 3aisha radiallahu anha where she says that if the prohibition of drinking alcohol would have come in the early stages of Islam, people would have never accepted Islam.

We are basically living in a time where our condition is quite similar to that of the polytheists in the Arabian peninsula 1400 years ago.

Laws and guidelines of Islam restricting our careless and lawless societies are too difficult to accept because we don't really believe in Islam fully.

We only believe in Islam when it suites our own personal preferences. Aspects of the religion that require dramatic changes are considered unnecessarily. People say that those restrictions are for other times. We don't have to abide by those laws now since we are so much more modern and advanced.

The reality is that we have gone backwards, not forwards. We have left Islam and we have taken our own desires as our lawgivers. We obey our own desires, our corrupt culture and society.

In order to change all of this, we need to educate people to learn who their creator is, what he demands from them, and we need to help people to become better Muslims before we expect an Islamic government to return like the one we know from history books.

People have romanticizations of Shari'ah; they believe Shari'ah is going to come in and MAGICALLY do everything for them; They fail to see the requirement of personal adaptation and participation in the process.

Communist regime was only implemented for a short time, it doesn't excist for 1400 years.
In 1400 years Islam failed to ban this and is still failing on every other front, every Islamic goverment is incompetent and corrupt.

Exactly my point; communism was way behind in its understanding of social issues when it came about that Islam already addressed over a milllenia ago.

The Greatest Communist Government in the World lasted 60+ years and ended 20 + years ago because it failed society. Islam has lasted 1400 years and still plays a deep role in peoples lives, The Most recent Islamic Government had to be forcefully removed from power against the well being of society. We can see here who was incompetent and corrupt.

In the 60+ years the Communist regime acomplisched much more than 1400 years of Islam. BY the way there are still communist countries in the world and Communist Ideology is not dead. It didn't fail society the whole world was against it.

Which Islamic goverment? That of Morsi? You call a govermnet who legalizes sex with a dead body socialy advanced and true Islamic?

Yes it accomplished its own demise; that's quite a lot.

If you think China is really communist; think again. Even they realized that communism can't work because communists don't have a sound understanding about economics and market forces.

Here's a list of communist countries; officially described as Communist

Cuba Cuba (Cuban Revolution in 1959, socialist state declared in 1961); Communist Party of Cuba
Laos Laos (since 1975); Lao People's Revolutionary Party
China People's Republic of China (since 1949); Communist Party of China
Vietnam Vietnam (since 1976); Communist Party of Vietnam
Laos - Isolated from the world, practically no economic viability
China- not really communist; has introduced market economy
Vietnam- slowly going the same direction as China
                        Cuba - failed state

These are countries which are Marxist-Leninist

North Korea North Korea (since 1948); Korean Worker's Party. In 1972, Juche officially replaced Marxism-Leninism as the official state ideology.
Total Dictatorship, people are isolated from any outside information. Has practically no economic system which can function competitively.

We can see here Communism has failed

By the way you need to better research than learning about the world through the Gossip column or tabloid magazines

Egypt's 'plans for farewell intercourse law so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives' branded completely false

Alleged proposals to allow Egyptian husbands to legally have sex with their dead wives for up to six hours after their death have been branded a 'complete nonsense'.

But sources inside the Egyptian Embassy in London have said the claims were 'completely false', 'forbidden in Islam' and 'could never imagine it happening'.

You're almost as dumb as Manzareh.
