  • Pashtun migration questions.........

Does anyone who migrated feel guilty for not living back home? If yes how do you deal with that? Under what circumstances (if ever) would you return to live back home?

What do you all who are living back home think about those who have left?
Who living back home would leave if they had the opportunity?

Afghanmeansdanger you said you feel guilty and then you said "why should I feel guilty" I think most of us feel some guilt and to lesson that guilt we try to help those back home in some way.

Afghanprincess I'm not judging anyone. Some Pashtuns have migrated for safety and others to make more money.

It bothers me. I am not a migrant, but the son of and I have spent years trying to find the missing pieces. It hurts because I have a family too now and there are stories and experiences that I can not share. Imagine only having fragments to hold on to.

Safety and security influence the reasons for being outside the homeland, but in time you lose more of your culture to your surroundings.

Nothing is impossible however. In fact tomorrow I am meeting with someone about the possibility of a job in Afghanistan, but who knows where I will be next - Europe, North America, the Gulf, Pakistan or Afghanistan?

^Sorry to hear that story Feroza.

Wouldn't it be great if people just weren't forced to move? (Wishful thinking, I know).

I never in my life experienced migration, but saw and met many migrants and unfortunately pashtuns are so many who migrated, so many afghans and also internal migrants in Pakistan.
                  A hard and bad experience,

Cha ye palao leedalay na wo
os da jamrud pa sarak, sar tor saroona

But if someone will feel guilty is a difficult question.
One should not expect from everyone to be Dr Najeeb.
It is ok, because if you are able to save your life then you are able to serve, but if you are not alive then how will you serve.
But afghans are settling many in west and then afghanistan will never develop as long as these educated people dont go back.

I am not away from watan because i am always lost in the mountains and deserts of Afghanistan (i always think about it and make myself happy)

I dont feel like an immigrant and since my childhood i visited My country every year.. Pakistan to kabul during mujahid time, talibjan times and karzai's rule.. when i moved to dubai I thought i wont be able to visit Afghanistan for yrs but it was not true.. i did visit afghanistan once in 4 months
Even from usa i have planned to go to afghanistan once a year Inshallah..

So far i never felt myself az an immigrant and will never do.. da day i start feeling, that day might be the last day of ma life

                      Home sweet home...

I am a slave of the fertile soil of swabi.

Even peshawar could not fill in all this emptiness inside.

I dont feel as guilty because my father, who was orphaned at the age of 13 as an only child and abused by his remaining family, escaped Afghanistan on his own as a young man to Pakistan where he worked, eventually settling in Kuwait.

This was in the 70s during Daud Khans time, before the outbreak of war. And we are a village people, not urbane privileged Kabulis. We are from a Rural Pakhtun village so needless to say, the journey was not easy

He only came back to marry my mother.

I would like to go back, if not to live, then to at least build a home there I can visit every year and maintain my roots. But the situation is very unstable

I hope I am able to make my goal accomplished
