  • how does smoking become an addiction?

I smoked many times before, yet never even once felt getting addicted to it. How in the world do people addicted to it? you can understand getting addicted to alcohol or drugs because they cause feelings/sensations but smoking does nothing, except leave a disgusting smokey flavor in your mouth/lungs

There's nicotine in the cigarette, and nicotine has addictive principles.

smoking should be technically haram because it is proven to harm the body, yet people still smoke so much

addictions are psychological as much as physical. nicotine is a narcotic. it enters your blood stream and forces your body to produce feel good hormones. eventually, your receptors or triggers become used to it so in order for your body to get that feel good rush, it starts demanding for stronger doses of it and before you know, you are addicted.

Karachi, I know what you're saying. That is what I call the starting stage. I remember when I first started smoking, I used to smoke for a few days and than quit for months. Than again smoke a few packets and stop smoking after that. Like when we used to go to our village I didn't smoke there because of the 'fear' that some elderly man may see me complain to my dad and it will be embarrassing. Now I can't even stop smoking there.
I was at home for a few days, not going to college, and I wanted to reduce the number of cigarettes per day. And the least I could come to was 6 cig in a day.

I will say don't try it every now and than even.

And technically haram. I heard Dr. Zakir Naik saying the same, he said there is a verse in the Quran 'Don't make your own hands the cause of your destruction'

Theres nicotine but other factors contribute to the addiction.
Usually people smoke in stressful situations and maybe psychologically they think that smoking is their way to release stress

Cigarettes contain nicotine, which is not only addictive but also a powerful stimulant. After inhaling cigarette smoke, it takes just seconds for the nicotine to enter your blood and reach your brain. Once there, it stimulates the release of chemicals. This gives you an instant rush, making you feel more alert and speeding up your reaction time. However, as with any addictive behaviour, for every high there is a low – as the effects of the nicotine start to wear off, the withdrawal symptoms start, and so you reach for the next cigarette.

As soon as you start inhaling the smoke deep into your lungs you will get addicted to it. I smoked for almost half a year without taking the smoke inside... and I had never been what they call a "smoker".
Then came the time when I learnt how to smoke like a real smoker which made me frequently smoke for another two and half years until a month a go when I quit. This has been my first ever commitment of getting rid of this useless habit and I am so far so successful

i have tried to quit a few times but have failed, i think its only a matter of time before i do it. i have already made several healthy changes in my life in the last 6 months or so, this would be the one that seals the deal for me.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
