what would be a good idea to get them involved and have them participate in activities that may or may not bring in profit but give them a sense of achievement at the same time?? something that doesn't require lots of financial aide but from which they can benefit on a smaller scale..

I heard there was a small protest by the disabled people outside karzai's palace. Legislation is in place im sure to protect their rights but I doubt they figure anywhere in electoral discussions which is sad.

To help them ? I think vocational institutions that specialize in training disabled people for specific trades would benefit them a lot. If you cant have an entire institution atleast have programs at local institutions for the disabled.

Rehabilitation programs is another good venue start talking to them about prosthetics and such

talal the thing is that we don't have those facilities or specialists who could help them to that extent. it is sad because a very large portion of our population is affected. the government is useless and one can't depend on foreign aide either. one person can't finance something like that and if you get more people involved, issues would arise and everyone would be discouraged shortly after. it has to be something which is not money driven so they can establish small branches with a little guidance.
i wish we had afghans volunteering from abroad to go down there, gather small groups and give them crash courses and have them teach or tutor in government schools and universities in afghanistan...

Not sure what else there is to do dzj, its a very hopeless situation. These kind of programs do require a lot of financial and moral support. In our culture a disabled person isn't given any support even from within family, they give them pity but they don't give them courage.

Most important thing we can do is to prevent it from happening, like this year 250,000 kids and thats a rough estimate haven't gotten polio vaccination in the tribal areas and thats not due to lack of conscious effort to get them the vaccinations but due to ignorance, people shun the volunteers who go there. Then there are so many kids born with severe disabilities because the mothers were exposed to depleted uranium in the urban neighborhoods.

These are basic things that can prevent more than half of the disabilities but to be honest, in countries were they chop off your limbs on purpose so that you can be an exceptional beggar, there isn't much hope.
