My best guess is that they're still retaining that old tradition that being overweight is considered pretty for women, which was just a recent cultural norm around the world, not so long ago.... same way how light skin and dark hair has just been good looking for women.

probably the Pashtun women got a good career in being a singer, so they settled in confortably, and .... gained a few pounds :/..... Normally, poor Pashtuns are skinny, while those with more weight reflect their higher standard of living.... female obesity makes the hips more hip-bearing for giving birth and so it has been a sign of fertily.

BTW, the new cultural trend that promotes skinny women is an alien concept introduced by Hollywood or other media just to spoil the minds of young girls about being health concious.... probably they wanna slim down all the ladies so their hips can no longer bear children, just guessing....
