    Sure there is nothing different between the 11.59 31 Dec/00.00 1 Jan, but the passing of one day to the next heralds the opportunity to do things differently and for what it's worth, have a brilliant new year people.

            @killzai

            what? Persians are our cousins and so are punjabis but thats about it. I ain't no persian

            You can't deny the fact that Pashtuns as well as kurds celebrate new year on the 20th of march. For pashtuns its not the same as persians, we don't do haft seen and other things which persians do. We just spend the day with family and friends since its a holiday in Afghanistan onthe 20th of march and begining of new year.

            Its different for some pashtuns in pakhtunkhwa because in pakistan, they follow the georgian calendar (christian one). If pakhtunkhwa was part of Afghanistan they would celebrate new year on the 20th of march as well.

            WE also use the islamic hijra calendar in Afghanistan but we use the sun to calculate the days of the year (hijri shamsi) and the arabs use the moon (hijri qamari). That's why there is difference in dates.

                  No offense, neither do I want to be in this useless debate. But I just came to know from that other thread of yours that you are in UK currently. Which calendar do you follow in your daily life?

                          21 has nothing to do with persians, it is the begining of spring in the northern hemisphere, so it is a natural new year. We armenians celebrate it too as Amanor. That day does not belong to a singular nation, but has surely more sense than 1 january, as on the 1 january there is no natural event. Sun and moon on the other hand were always in the eye of the people, like the spring is too, as with the spring the year of working starts at least for people who do agriculture.
