okay, my turn.
i tend to procrasinate alot. when i realize that there is something that i have to get done by a certain period of time, i find 500 other things (that i have had zero interest in doing previously) to do with my time rather than that one thing that needs to be done. i don't write papers on the night before they are due, i write them in the last 3 hours of the night that i stayed awake with the intention of writing the damn thing and after having watched 5 episodes of dr phill on youtube.

All of us have that problem. The problem you are having is with your location. You must be at a location where others are studying, which forces you to study to an extent that you might feel embarrassed to do anything else but study. If I am home, I can rarely get work done(except coding), but if I am at a local library, where others are focused, I too can then focus and get work done.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam. Try to set up a goal, and feel challenged. Another problem is that if the class is too easy, or if you are already getting good grades, then there is nothing you can do about it since you simply don't feel challenged. In that case, enroll in courses via MIT's OCW, or Stanford's equivalent, or simply use Coursera to enhance your knowledge. The aforementioned will certainly challenge you beyond your understanding, which will force you to focus and study.
Hope I helped, do let me know if you need more advice.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

it's a little sad because with the 50% of effort that we put in to it, we manage to do better than those individuals who jot down every single thing written on the board. and then you are like,....suppose i had put more effort in to this...

Dear DaZahroJaam, i actually do not really know, when i changed was a bit a difficult time for me, so i changed to tjanaparh.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam. View Postdear arevapasht, why did you change your name??

Well seems familiar to me specially when i look back on many situations. At work i feel like in a prison thinking that i do nothing, while my Professor praizes me for doing so much and so fast, but i put all the work always to the last day, because otheerwise i finish imidiately and have to sit at work without work

that makes sense to me but when i am in public, i can't focus on one thing. my friends will pull out their books and study at lunch break, i would be sitting there and watching them. i have no idea how they can focus with people moving all around the place.Originally posted by Admin Khan View PostAll of us have that problem. Best,
if i put away my phone and focus on what the teacher is saying, i will end up admiring the wall paper behind her or the lights on the ceiling for hours..if i am busy with my phone, i find myself inclined to listening to what the he is saying.
the only studying that i get done is late at night when i can't leave the house or when everyone else is asleep and not available for conversation.
arevapasht, if you do get it done on time and manage to get over the guilt too, you will end up over analyzing the entire thing and end up confusing yourself. or at least that is how it happens to me.
someone once suggested a book on critical thinking which was to help individuals who tend to get carried away by thinking outside the box too much but i never got around to reading the damn thing and i no longer remember the name either.

Your friends are more than likely not learning anything, and at that point it's nothing more than a fashion statement. When it's lunch, eat food, smile, burp, have a 10 minute walk. You don't need to start writing an essay while you are eating, one should eat food with a peaceful mind(even though they have a 10 page paper due tomorrow)so there is nothing wrong with your approach there. So that's normal.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam. View Post[COLOR=Navy][FONT=Arial][B]that makes sense to me but when i am in public, i can't focus on one thing.

That's normal. Hell, I've fell asleep in class while a world expert is lecturing. It happens, we can't help it. However, what you need to do is visit a library, walk into those super quiet areas, whip out your notebook, and focus. Another thing you might be missing is motivation and a purpose. Sit down, and find yourself a reason for this. I myself, when I am expected to write 10-20K of code with though algorithmic challenges, feel stressed and often hopeless. Imagine how it feels when you have written 10K lines of code, and you hit a bug, and no one but yourself can understand what you wrote, since no one is voluntarily willing to debug your code. One might just give up, but I think about those Afghans who do not have the opportunity that I have. I think of those who probably wish and beg to become Engineers, yet they are forced to sell at street vendors to produce a living for their family, that motivates me to pull out my debugger, and find where I went wrong. More important to studying is having a reason. With one educated Afghan woman, there can be hope for other women who will view you as a role model, or someone who made it. Another good idea is changing your location. If you are at position X for more than 5 hours and are not able to get work done, get up, grab your stuff, and move to position Y. Another thing that also helps is working as a group, visit your MSA, find like-minded people, and study WITH them. The aforementioned helps more than you can possibly imagine. Studying in a group is far more effective than studying alone. While you are tempted to whip out your phone to check your text messages, the influence of being in a group where it might seem wrong will force you not to do it.if i put away my phone and focus on what the teacher is saying, i will end up admiring the wall paper behind her or the lights on the ceiling for hours..if i am busy with my phone, i find myself inclined to listening to what the he is saying.

Hope that helps.
Caveat:
Don't expect immediate results, this is a gradual process that will slowly but surely work.
