  • Freedom in an unfree world

I closed down my FB account. I regret opening this account, its a honey laced trap (not the honey trap like in blaxploitation movies where a hot girl is used to lure someone to desired exposure).
I began objecting to the fact that so much information is taken from individuals, like that ferocious wasp stings the giant spider with paralysing toxin, lays eggs in the living watching suffering spider, and then the wasp larvae hatch and feed on the fresh paralysed spider. Refering to the title of thread which i borrowed from harry browne novel of days bygone, i havent really gained total freedom, but i have regained an iota of increased anonymity, an iota of sense that dont give away your privacy unless you are sitting face to face with someone you want to share your life with. FB was like a spiralling vortex grabbing anyone paralysed enough into my circle of friends, what friends, never seen him or heard of him - just another recommendation from FB.

So the end. Not going there again. I can just about handle PF!!!

"Where have I been?" As rhetoric irony?

I know the problem slaps you in the face, where have i been, right.
I have ben avoiding FB, visiting a few times a year. Each time upping level of security, finally i copy pasted my name in perso-arabic text, that kept me invisible, but I avoided facing the problem, the wasp-spider-parasite syndrome, until now, deleted account. But even that is like deleting a shortcut icon, your details remain somewhere. So the next best thing was if I cannot rid the disease, I can stop it by cutting the piece out. So no more FB.

My spider sense tells me that you think "why hasn't this guy seen the obvious, answer?", well, . . . "yes I did" . . . . . . and "no! I couldn't do it", because I was paralysed by the pervasive roots, breached deep inside me. Hence the liberating title, the liberating action.

But my reason for this thread was not FB per se, but a provocateur to question the malaise we suffer giving into demands of others and from many sources. To liberty, not general liberty, but special liberty; our lives are complicated by so many intrusive stimuli, from the choking institutionalised ones such as banks, dress codes, adjusting to cultural "norms", to host country, to the commercial ones such as dependance on latest i-gizmo 5, and to the banal ones as necessity of wearing a watch.

I am older than many of you here, and I am constantly battling with the unnecessary burden that has become a monster in the scale of Shakespearian Tempest, some around me say I am reverting to traits of older people, thinking of watan, simpler life, dislike of music, loud music, getting really annoyed at "modish weird" behaviour and fashion of youth, etc etc, but no, Its not that I have become a cynical old buster, but I have gained the wisdom of experience, it has kicked me in the teeth, controlled my ego and pride, made me eat humble pie, and see wood from the tree ( my father was right, I was wrong). I am free, and as I am a physicist, I know my freedom is confined in 'boundary condition', within the parameters of what is legal and not.
