hey, it is about dress, not face
I posted those pictures to show that the idea of the veil/covering face is not typical for Islam only. But women did it for different purposes.

the only reason im having hard time figuring out where they are from is because the way she styled her vail. it may be english, even if it is, it must be late 12th century early 14th because after that the vail went smaller and covered less hair, and by 17th century the women started to wear low v neck looking like dresses. hmmm they must be french then.. because france was more into vail i believe... and she is wearing something on her feet.. hmm it can be spain... omg i pick spain lol they had mentilla but that too is see through ghrrr

First coustume comes from Danish Island Fano untill the end of 19th century. There is specific climate - strong winds and quicksand. To protect their faces women used to wear such clothes.
Second picture - it is a traditional wedding dress drom Danish Island called Amager. What covers the face is in fact a special skirt. Women dressed them even in the early 20th century.

I am reading a book about traditional costumes of Scandinavian and Baltic countries. In all pictures women have scarfs or bonnets on their heads.
Still in many countries, especially in rural areas married or older women cover hair with scarfs because of tradition or as a sign of modesty. Sometimes they taunt those who don't do that.

One more picture - coustumes from Karelia (north-Western Russia, near the border with Finland), early 20th century.
